Although this would normally be a question Id post on the WO forums, I cant yet because I don't have a character created; which I cant create until it finishes downloading. Also I will be writing a review on my thoughts to the game, as I go through the trial period. I know you play whisper, so I need a little help selecting my class. I'm looking to try and deal nice melee dps with a 2hander ( I like da big weapons!). The other aspects of my class (armor, hp, etc) aren't so important to me as long as I can beet someone up with a big weapon. So far from my reading Ive gathered Id either be a black orc, or a choppa. Your thoughts? (and yes im staying destro).


(lol, for review purposes, the first thing wrong I noticed is I cannot post on the wo forums without first having a character, which holds true to most MMO's but still annoying. Also even though I logged into the forums and read and searched I couldnt find a nice comprehensive class guide that detailed each race/class fully).

Well, Figured id post my thoughts on WAR so far. I started the game knowing that I wanted to weild a big weapon, and do lots of damage. Fortunately WAR let me do just that. Im an Orc Choppa, which is basically a berserker/barbarian as you can imagine. Its definitely a DPS type class but they can wear medium armor and do have some hp. Although the mechanics of the game are fairly mundane and ussual (third person pov, hotkey bars, cooldowns, similiar to WOW, Vangaurd SOH, and all EQ rip offs) there is one thing this game brought to the table I really enjoyed; PVP. I love pvp but most of the time you have to get to a high level and have special equipment to be any good, no so true in WAR.
Soon after making my character I did what Id do in every MMO; Grabbed up quests like a madman so I could complete them all at once. That strategy was clearly flawed in WAR, as there was no way to kill 10 dwarf players in pvp at one time, instead quests tend to be more stretched out, or focused on the war itself. There is a rare quest here or there to go get lets say collect 5 boar skulls, which sounds lame until you kill a boar and realize "hey check that out, all boars in WAR have skulls" and suddenly collection quests make much more sense (no more hoofless zebras, toothless lions, or hairless hyenas running around) but most quests are still war based. Which is my next point...
This is WAR (or WAAAAAGH!). There is nothing in this game that isn't dedicated or linking directly to the war. I started the game and soon after I flash in the corner of my screen anounced to me that "Destruction forces have issued a challenge, click here to join!" I clicked. I was then teleported to an area where a small scale (about 20 vs 20 ) battle was breaking out. Being lvl 1 and just starting the game I did what most would have... jumped around and ran not quite sure what I was supposed to do. I saw a bald human looking figure in robes holding a mace standing next to me doing the same, and the game became much clearer...he's a human (squishy) and Im an Ork...I attacked him, he also caught on and began to respond, the skirmish between us lasted about as long as a 15 yr old virgin and we were done in seconds. But I was victorious! DING! wha? You mean I gained a lvl from killing someone....what a pleasant surprise, pvp gives exp and rewards, and good xp and rewards at that. I also didn't have to wait until lvl ?? to be good at pvp, i can do it at lvl 1 and there arent issues, also grievers (high lvl peeps who come to kill lowbies) get chickened when they enter a zone not at their lvl. I know a rebuttal to this might be I can make a twink type character (be the highest lvl for the battle area and have good items) but lets face it winning a lvl 19 BG (or equivalent for other games) is like winning the special Olympics, you still lose.
Im now a rank 7 Ork Choppa, weilding a mighty axe, and I have a much better understanding of the game. Im gonna give it a 9/10.

PROS: Pvp is fun at all lvls (kinda an assumption)
The war is evident (no sanctuary cities, or non pvp areas)
All races have completely different classes
All classes have completely different equipment

CONS: Weak on the PVM side of the house
The musical score isnt that great...not that anyone cares about music too much.
Still a few rough edges, but I do think they'll be ironed out.

Final Verdict: If you like PVP this is the game for you, if you like PVM stick with WOW (frikkin carebear). What I will say though Is that you should atleast download the trial and play the first 10 days free, because....well its free and the results might surprise you. Me I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase the game right now, I've had a blast so far.

Also, if you do decide to come over to IC, we can try to get you bumped up in rank quickly so you can come over to the Land of the Dead...if you think pvp is great in general, you haven't seen ANYTHING til you've gone over there and experienced an entire pvp realm where instances can be invaded, control of the land itself shifts, and the public quests are interactable to the detriment of the opposing side!

lol the game wont let me join IC server, is it on the shutdown list?

Hmm...could be I suppose. I haven't played in about a week so there's no telling what's going on. I'll check on it tonight.

Well I play a Marauder on Dark Crag right now, love the open RVR

I just logged in recently and found out that Ironclaw was merged due to a low server pop. My options for transfer are Badlands, Gorfang, and Volkmar. I haven't decided which I'm going to go to yet though.
